When we first decided to go backpacking in Asia ( a week before we left #lastminutetrips ), we were determined to carry as little are we can, yet still have everything we might need.
We knew we would have to carry everything, plus potentially a tired 2 & 4 year old. It also all had to be carry on, we knew we would take a lot of flights/trains/boats/taxis/every other mode of transportation.
We had everything we needed. #minimalist
Our bags (This is literally everything we bring with us)
Him: Osprey Porter 46
My only regret is not buying the version with wheels, when i was travelling alone with the girls in iceland, I kinda wished it had wheels in the airport, something to consider if you're looking to buy a new bag, otherwise the backpack is great.
Her: Lululemon day backpack (Discontinued)
Kids: Small Minnie mouse backpack bought at WDW
Essentials:
-S'well waterbottles (This is a must have depending on what countries you're travelling to, for iceland it's a must, vs Asia, we chose to only drink bottled water)
-Packing cubes
-First aid kit (band aids, tylenol, benadryl, etc.)
-Bug spray
-Toiletries
-Kid floaters
-Tula Toddler Carrier
-Travel towels
Clothes for each Traveller:
- 3 outfits (Quick dry, good quality clothes are great, sometimes access to dryers is scarce)
- 1 Pair of sandals (Keens or Birkenstocks)
- 6 underwear
- 2 PJs
- 2 Bathing Suits
- 1 Sweater
Kids Stuff:
- Snacks
- A couple tiny toys
- Water colour paint & pad
- Old cell phones (used as ipads)
It's totally doable to travel with a single backpack for a family of 4.
Good Luck!
